SPECIAL BARCODE LABEL SOLUTIONS FOR THE IRON AND STEEL INDUSTRY FROM EGEN BARKOD
In the July 2019 issue of Metalsan Magazine, our General Manager Önder Karaca spoke about “Egen Barkod and Our Special Label Solutions for the Iron and Steel Industry.”
Serving the largest companies in its sector, Egen Etiket provides services to many industries with its products that comply with international standards. Stating that they manufacture with the principle of unconditional customer satisfaction and continuity in quality, Egen Barkod General Manager Önder Karaca answered our questions about their company, products, and solutions for the iron and steel industry.
Could you provide information about the establishment of your company?
This flag, which was first raised in 1955 and taken over by us as the 3rd generation, continued as a stationery wholesaler until the year 2000. In order to meet the needs arising from barcode applications becoming a part of trade and every aspect of our lives, and to take our place in new technologies and the growing global markets, we began pursuing innovations in the paper and label sector we know very well starting from 2001. Within this framework, through the manufacturing we initiated, we strive not only to supply labels to our customers, but also to act as a solution partner.
What are your product ranges?
As Egen Barkod, we provide printed and unprinted barcode labels, high-temperature-resistant rolling mill and iron–steel labels, barcode label printers, thermal transfer ribbons, color label printers, wristband printers and consumables, ID card printers and consumables, barcode printer accessories, and original spare parts to our customers.
Which industries do you serve?
As is well known, barcode labels are used in almost every industry imaginable. Iron and steel manufacturing, manufacturing industry, retail, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, agricultural products, food, and office management are some of these industries.
Our company develops solution sets tailored to the needs of each industry. For the iron and steel sector, we provide rolling-mill hanger labels and heat-resistant labels; for the manufacturing industry, special adhesives and surface solutions; for the retail sector, price labels and mobile printer consumables; for the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries, hospital admission labels and medicine labels; for the food sector, printed and unprinted label solutions; and for office applications, address and cargo labels, etc.
Could you provide information about your markets? Do you export?
We continue to grow day by day with approximately 3,500 companies that we serve within Türkiye and exports to 6 countries. We have the goal of being able to serve the largest companies in every sector. We currently work with 4 companies among Türkiye’s Top 10 Enterprises and with 80 companies among the Top 500 Industrial Enterprises. Our future target is to increase our export volume so that it constitutes approximately 50% of our total turnover.
How do you evaluate the first half of the year?
The exchange-rate fluctuations we experienced last year created negative effects in the domestic market during the first half of the year. Since all of our production in the paper sector depends on imports, price increases became inevitable. We observed that companies without exports were affected much more negatively during this period. Despite all these challenges, we continued to grow our business and to provide flawless service to our customers. We hope the current difficulties will ease in the second half of the year.
How is demand trending in the domestic and international markets? Can you analyze the condition of the sectors you supply?
As long as our international customers receive continuity in service, quality, and competitive pricing, the business continues smoothly and appears open to growth. Domestic market demand, however, varies according to the structure of the companies you supply. As long as the production and exports of corporate companies continue, demand follows the same trajectory. When we evaluate the companies we supply, it is very clear that all sectors engaged in long-term purchasing and sales are facing difficulties. High interest rates, rising costs, and contraction in imports have impacted companies operating in this structure.
Anything you would like to add…
As Egen Barkod, our goal is unconditional customer satisfaction and continuity in quality.
